Transmission Planning

Transmission Network Service Providers (TNSPs) are heavily regulated entities in the electricity industry who often need expert opinions on interpretation and application of regulation. TNSPs also require analysis of the market to help formulate future investment and areas of potential growth. The future generation development pattern in the NEM is unknown and hence it is necessary to assess the need for network developments against a set of backgrounds that represent the probable future developments.

ROAM has insight into the NEM and is an unbiased independent expert, making it a perfect candidate to undertake such assignments. In the past ROAM has been awarded contracts by many clients including Powerlink, to assist with an application for regulatory status for project upgrades, and ElectraNet SA, to deliver expertise in economic evaluations for the Regulatory Test.

ROAM has completed several other projects for clients such as Transgrid using our Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) model together with our 2-4-C dispatch methodology to accurately establish the likely operating patterns for separate development scenarios in the future. Constraint equation development and Marginal Loss Factor (MLF) calculations also tend to be of interest to TNSPs and ROAM has a vast amount of experience with these types of work.
